#15: Field Notes
On practicing like your hair’s on fire
-Rune Guneriussen, Circle of reception, 2011
Hello spooky one!
keeping it short and sweet and giving you the good stuff right off the bat. 🦇
That said, it wouldn’t feel right to not recognize October for all of it’s mystical, prophetic, occult powers & mysterious magic. The veil is the thinnest now and you can feel it in the air. Signs, symbols, and clues lay everywhere if you pay attention. It’s a time for alchemy, it’s time to calibrate energetically. It’s time to stare at that moon til it spooks you. 🌕
follow whims <> trust patterns <> seek symbols
it’s decidedly my favorite month and i don’t want it to end. savor each and every day of October!
“I’m so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers”
— L.M. Montgomery, Anne of Green Gables
I. a listen
Ram Das on Loving & Dying
Did we forget about groovy, far-out Ram Das? I often do every now and then!
I wasn’t quite sure which episode to drop here as I’ve listened to a fair share. Das can come in a little hot in his earlier Satsang lectures, fresh off visits with his guru Maharaj-ji, full of zeal from his transformation in the ’70s. But he softens in his later years.
I actually like the ferocity with which he teaches as it reminds me of something my teacher often relays — “practice like your hair’s on fire.”
❤️🔥
II. a passage
Simone Weil, Gravity and Grace
“To love purely is to consent to distance, it is to adore the distance between ourselves and that which we love.
The imagination is always united with a desire, that is to say a value. Only desire without an object is empty of imagination.”
III. a meme reminder
In case you forgot, you are not your thoughts.
(thank you to the instagram follow who storied this - i screenshotted and cropped and cannot remember who you were!)
Buenos. 🍐
Oh, don’t forget to get a halloween costume in order!
practicing like my hair’s on fire,
